There is an economic theory that would make us all petty bourgeois, as far as possible anyway….

Great piece on an underdiscussed topic. Small business owners are often too busy to defend themselves (as i know in my personal experience). It's great having someone give voice to this perspective.

Capitalism is a made-up term. It just means that one can afford to buy stocks.

Marxism is a failed religious cult. Marx was a jealous man who wanted people to buy his books. He didn't care about the economy or anyone other than himself.

Free enterprise is the correct word from the past . Capitalism is their word . Don’t use it unless to refer to crony capitalism, but even that is just cronyism.

But he was one of those lefties that celebrated Trump's missile attack on Syria, so...

It's about time someone praised the importance and virtues of this category of people. This is the original category of people one would've had in prehistoric social groups, after all - specialists/artisans and such like, that is.

It's not surprising Marx wanted to deceive the proles into attacking the entrepreneurs - Marx was working for the bankers and industrialists after all, for whom small business owners are the enemy. Hence all this predatory capitalism.

The Liberal Socialism we're writing about on my site is fully embracing and encouraging of this category/class of people. There'll be an essay on this soon enough. Small business owners, especially mutuals, are true socialism, because it's bottom-up, not top-down. Top-down is simply not socialism, and this needs to be emphasised both for libertarians and for the so-called 'left' - most of whom would know real socialism if bit them on the behind.

And you can't have socialism without liberty - because it's fundamental to the human spectrum of psychological needs...
