Great...I visited Maria Sabina's village X years back and was graced to do ceremony with her daughter or someone like that, made possible by the people I was with...AND HERE'S A question: what's your name? I'm connected to "crow" at Nevermore, is that you? I will be sending poems for y'all to look at, but does this article mean you're still traveling? Are there several folks at Nevermore or what? Is the guy in the video "you"?.......Michael

Sure, Huautla, very moving experience, I'll share, twas around 2000 our entree hosted by -- gee, best to do this in person. Where are you? Are you "crow" currently in Oaxaca on your motorcycle or are you someone in San Cristobal? Was it you I was in contact with who said yes to me sending poems for possible use in Nevermore? My most recent book, Let's Burn the Flags of All Nations, I was gonna mail to San Cristobal but have lost books in the mail to MX, so I'll email poems. Yes? I am a poet, novelist, shamanic practitioner, the last three years finding myself being a health freedom activist, unvaccinated, deep in the madness. Need to get out of US Empire. Have longtime connections to the realm of Anarchy... Michael

Yes I am crow... The address I gave you in San Cristóbal is still good, but I would prefer private correspondence if you don't mind... Who knows how many law enforcement agencies read this blog! They're probably some of my biggest fans at this point!

Private correspondence, how? Are you saying I shouldn't send poems to the Nevermore site? You publish pretty incendiary stuff. Yes, private, how do we get to that space? Wanna send me an email address and then erase it when I say I've received it? Or...

I think that many atheists do have an experience of worship from upbringing in religious households and cultures. I would divide these formative experiences generally into two categories: false worship that produces a synthetic version of spiritual ecstasy which is actually the ecstasy of immersive synchronicity with the group of belonging, and genuine worship with the transcendent feeling it produces ( but later cast into doubt through the process of questioning of dogma and observing in retrospect the hypocrisy encountered in many religious communities.)

It is therefore understandable if some atheists retain suspicion of religious and spiritual transcendent feelings, and if they do not feel any desire to partake. It was courageous of them to break free of the dogmatic groupthink in which they were raised, and to dispense with their cultural programming to seek truth elsewhere. Even if they are mistaken about the truth they believe they've discovered in atheism, it is still, for many of them, quite a feat of inner growth.

Congrats on your first journalistic assignment! You chose an excellent subject matter, in one of the best places in the world (Oaxaca is kinda my favorite), and I'll be reading with great interest. (Edit: I just realized this post is a month old, but I'll still be reading the rest of the series with great interest.)

Thank you so much! I was supposed to write 3000 words and wrote a novella instead. I think I have one chapter to go but I'm usually always wrong about these things!

A million spiritual tourists seeking substances to cure humanity's individual existential crisis and the world still heads towards avoidable entropy. But hey this is the best part of the trip

Im not sure I understand what you mean. If you are saying that ¨you cant take a drug to achieve enlightenment¨, I would agree with you, but I definitely think that a real spiritual search should include a lot of experimentation, and I think that going on pilgrimmages to exotic locales to have mind altering experiences beats the hell out of staying home to play video games, or, for that matter, reading books. Nothing beats direct experience if you ask me.

Im not sure that is what you were saying, though, could you please restate your comment? Do you believe in the myths of science? I know that some archmaterialists (like Bertrand Russell) believe that the second law of thermodynamics means that the universe in proceeding inexorably towards ever increasing entropy inevitably resulting in heat death, but I think that says more about Bertrand Russell than it does about the universe or the second law of themodynamics.

Yeh exactly... None of it makes sense. I can't restate sarcasm it's not in my deal.

Hey just delete the comment. I am just another dog barking.

Wow, arent you touchy! I didnt mean to be rude. I really do care what my readers think, which is why I respond to comments. I certainly dont consider you to be another dog barking. I personally am not convinced that modern physics has the world figured out, and I think all physicists would agree with me. Now, Im not into math or science, and I could be missing something here, but the belief that the universe will proceed inexorably towards entropy and heat death seems to me an unproven hypothesis at odds with most of the spiritual and philosophical traditions of the world, including those of the Gnostics and hermeticists, as well as all shamanic traditions Im aware of. I am not even convinced that time proceeds unidirectionally in a linear manner from past to future.

This article tackles the whole entropy idea, drawing the parallels with the fraudulent 'limits to growth' paradigm underlying neoliberalism etc. - in other words real science has been suppressed - no surprise there. Well worth a read:

So much love and respect for you, brother Crow. So much love and respect. The plants and fungi with all their Godhead magic do just pop up all the time. I don’t presume to fully understand their wisdom but it is beyond powerful. Stupid gringos will fuck up just about anything. But the mushrooms keep going. They have their own deeper wisdom. I believe that we are on a mushroom planet. Fungi and their symbiotic networks of microbes are what is actually “going on” on this planet. Everything else, including ALL of humanity, is essentially a sideshow (and, importantly, also “on the menu” for the fungi and microbes.) Some of us are supposed to find and eat these things. This is our way of being the Godhead experiencing itself and our part of understanding and engaging - playing with and in - the vast field of manifestation magic.
