Chris Hedges is right about war but completely (and suspiciously) dropped the ball on COVID and the increasing totalitarianism that the "pandemic" enabled.

You're completely right. Unfortunately I haven't seen any sign that he's come to his senses on that. It seems like he genuinely fell for it.

I considered mentioning that but decided against it. I want to focus on the positive, and there's a lot of positive with Chris Hedges.

Yes, it's difficult to overlook that.

It was dereliction of duty, I'll give you that. Maybe he will revisit his position at some point. But can you think of any other A-list thinker of the old left who's worth paying attention to at all anymore? I can't.

Sure...Cornel West. Although he too skirted Covid. But I loved his comment about RFK Jr's unquestioned support of the Israeli state -- "Bobby must be smoking crack!" We have to bring ourselves up to date and realize "Left" and "Right" are outmoded categories. In fact, the less categories in every direction, the closer we'll be to the multi-dimensional reality we're facing

Has John Pilger checked out too? I haven't paid close attention lately but he did give a principled fuck once upon a time.

Hey, you're right!!! I forgot about John Pilger! Good point!

(If anyone reading this could bring me up to date about Pilger, I would appreciate it!)

At last writing, as steely as ever https://johnpilger.com/articles/there-is-a-war-coming-shrouded-in-propaganda-it-will-involve-us-speak-up

"Democracy is notional now; there is the all-powerful elite of the corporation merged with the state and the demands of 'identity'."

Boff, right on the nose.

Edit: he seemed to me to give Covid a wide berth rather than get involved, if you're curious about that. I never saw him haranguing anyone about jabs like Noam, though I may well have missed that. Stand to be corrected.

The fact that they were presented to us as "A-list" in the first place is probably a clue as to why they are now failing to inspire!

You bet...his articles are so on target...this one takes the breath away. But he missed the boat on Covid, skipped over or refused to consider that the same twisting/denying of the truth shown years ago in Noam Chomsky + Edward Herman's Manufacturing Consent was operative in how the media suppressed what Big Pharma and Fauci were doing. And not only him, Chomsky himself said at one point that the unvaccinated should be put in confinement! What can one say except nobody's perfect -- or rather, to quote The Great Whomever, "Take what you can use and lose the rest."

yeah. that comment was pretty darn unforgivable. I'm not aware of anything Hedges has said or done that is remotely as bad as that.

I call him Noam "Kill 'em All" Chomsky now...

Good point. To be fair a reporter's job is to report, not to propose solutions.

On the other hand, Hedges is more than a reporter, he is a theorist and philosopher too.

To be honest I haven't read any of his books... so my comments are mostly about his reporting.

They best answer I've seen so far is this:

Make yourself into the most resilient, strong, and moral version you can.

Then do the same for your family.

Then have your family do the same for your community.

As far as issues go, the order of descending importance is local, regional, state, national, and finally global.

Frankly, I'd drop the global.
